Can John Abraham’s The Diplomat Break the Curse Of Delayed Releases And Past Box Office Failures?

The Diplomat had been sitting unused in T-Series' warehouse, but now talks about its release have resurfaced.

John Abraham’s career has seen a mix of hits and misses over the years, but his latest film The Diplomat is facing its own set of challenges. Initially scheduled for release in January 2023, the film was positioned to capitalise on the buzz created by the blockbuster Pathaan

However, the release was overshadowed when another big project, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, was announced at the last minute. As a result, The Diplomat struggled to maintain its promotional momentum, leaving fans and critics questioning whether it could live up to its potential.

Makers To Release John Abraham’s Delayed Film ‘The Diplomat’?

After spending months on the shelf, the film has found its way back into the spotlight. As per the reports, The Diplomat had been sitting unused in T-Series’ warehouse, but now talks about its release have resurfaced.

John Abraham posted the movie’s poster on social media in July 2023, sparking renewed conversation about its release.

However, The Diplomat isn’t the only film John has been associated with recently. His movie Veda, directed by Nikkhil Advani, hit theatres in August 2023 but failed to impress at the box office. Moreover, a press conference incident, where John’s negative behaviour towards the media sparked controversy, didn’t help improve the film’s image.

Film’s Plot Is Exactly Opposite To Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan

The story of The Diplomat is intriguing yet familiar, following a similar theme to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. While Salman Khan’s character in the latter travels to Pakistan to bring a girl to India, John’s character in The Diplomat is tasked with bringing a girl from Pakistan to India.

This reversal offers a unique twist, but the film has been delayed several times, mainly due to the inability to secure a deal for its OTT and satellite rights. It’s a sign that the film has struggled to find its footing, much like many of John’s recent releases.

Will The Film Work Amid John Abraham’s Rough Patch At The Box Office?

Over the past five years, John has seen little success at the box office. Films like Mumbai Saga, Satyamev Jayate 2, Attack, and Veda all failed to make a mark, leaving John in a tough spot. His production ventures, including Sardar Ka Grandson, Mike, and Tara vs Bilal, have also underperformed at the domestic box office, adding to his woes.

The Diplomat also lacks a major star opposite John, with the leading lady, Sadiya Khatib, being relatively new to the industry. She was previously seen in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara

Despite these challenges, the film does have a few bright spots. It is penned by acclaimed writer Ritesh Shah and directed by Shivam Nair, who served as the chief assistant director on Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops.

With the film now in the public eye once again, the question remains: can The Diplomat overcome its delayed release and John Abraham’s recent string of box office failures? Only time will tell if this film can break the cycle of setbacks and bring John the success he’s hoping for.
