Rohit Shetty is set to produce a biopic on Rakesh Maria, the legendary Mumbai police officer, with John Abraham in the lead role. The film will focus on Maria’s key role in investigating major events like the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, the Zaveri Bazaar blast, and the 26/11 terror attacks. This film marks a shift from Shetty’s usual cop-themed films, even though he has a long history with law enforcement stories.
Script Of This John Abraham Starrer Finalised
John Abraham will be playing the titular role in this biopic of the legendary cop. Known for his intense roles, Abraham is eager to take on this challenging portrayal.
According to sources, the script is finalised, and production is set to begin in the summer of 2025. The biopic will highlight Maria’s remarkable contributions to Mumbai’s police force, with Abraham portraying the real-life hero who played a crucial role in some of India’s most significant investigations.
Rohit Shetty Aims For 2026 Release
Rohit Shetty (known for his cop universe films) will produce the movie. While he is busy directing Golmaal 5, this biopic will be a unique project, separate from his other films. “This won’t be a part of the cop universe, but a universe in itself, as Rakesh Maria is the most celebrated cop of the real-life cop universe,” said a source to Bollywood Hungama.
Shetty has a long-standing relationship with Rakesh Maria, who has been instrumental in helping with research for Shetty’s past cop films. This biopic is a way for Shetty to honour Maria’s heroic work. The partnership between Shetty and Abraham has created high expectations, as both are major figures in Indian cinema.
The film is expected to be released in 2026 after Shetty completes work on Singham Again.
