Actor John Abraham (known for his action-packed roles) is set to take on a new challenge. He will play Rakesh Maria, the legendary Mumbai police officer, in an upcoming biopic. The film will focus on Maria’s key role in investigating the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, the Zaveri Bazaar blast, and the 26/11 terror attacks.
Rakesh Maria Biopic With John Abraham In The Works
Rakesh Maria is a well-known figure in Mumbai’s battle against terrorism. Over his career from 1981 to 2017, he was involved in solving several high-profile cases, earning great respect. The biopic will trace his career from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to Director General of Home Guards.
Sources close to the film reveal that John Abraham is excited to portray this iconic officer. A source told Pinkvilla, “John Abraham is excited to play the part, and he truly believes that the film will be a tribute to celebrate the legacy of Rakesh Maria’s service to the nation.”
Known for films like Force, Madras Cafe, and Pathaan, John is eager to bring this powerful story to life.
Film Currently In Scripting Stage & Will Roll In Late 2025
The movie is currently in the scripting stage, with filming set to begin in the second half of 2025. The makers are working to capture Maria’s approach to fighting terrorism and solving major cases.
The same source added, “The cop thriller film is currently in the scripting stage and will be helmed by one of the leading filmmakers of Indian cinema. The makers are aiming to put forth the mechanism of capturing the terrorists, as Rakesh Maria had a method to function and crack all the cases. John too is involved in the process of developing this film and is charged up to play the role of most celebrated cop on screen. It’s a tribute to the real-life hero.”
The biopic will be directed by a top filmmaker from Indian cinema. It will not only highlight Maria’s heroic actions but also show the struggles he faced while tackling major terror attacks in the city.
Besides this film, John Abraham has other projects in the works. He will appear in Tehran, produced by Dinesh Vijan, and Diplomat, produced by Bhushan Kumar. Both films are expected to be released soon.
