Babil Khan has posted the trailer of his father and actor Irrfan’s final movie, The Song of Scorpions, which is scheduled to premiere in India. Babil stated, “Bringing alive a heart-wrenching tale of love, obsession and betrayal.” Set in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, the movie features Irrfan as a camel trader who falls in love with Nooran (played by Golshifteh Farahani). The plot revolves around a folktale where Nooran is the only one who knows the song that can cure a scorpion’s sting.
In the enthralling trailer, we witness Nooran’s extensive journey on foot across the desert, singing to cure those who have been stung by scorpions. As she captivates audiences with her performances, Irrfan’s character falls deeply in love with her, and she too develops feelings for him. However, their plans to get married are halted when a tragic event occurs. Waheeda Rehman portrays Nooran’s grandmother in the movie.
He had said, “Yes, when I first started writing the male character, I even named him ‘Irrfan’! That’s how I saw the character. There’s the spirit of a musician in Irrfan. Though we don’t really say much to each other, we listen to each other’s timbre, modulation, tone of voice, and improvise dialogues like two musical instruments would! We have a deep understanding and respect for each other’s creative inspiration. Therefore, when we work together, it’s not just comfortably but also with the joy of opening to each other our creative best. I do hope I’ll make many more movies with Irrfan. I already have a script for when he is 80 years old!”
It will hit theatres on April 28, a day prior to Irrfan’s third death anniversary.
