Moviegoers in India were in for a surprise when they watched Zendaya’s latest Hollywood release, Challengers. Despite the stringent regulations of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding explicit content, two intense sex scenes remained untouched in the film.
Starring Zendaya, renowned for her roles in Spider-Man, Dune, and Euphoria, the film also features Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. The movie gained global attention last year with its teaser, which depicted Zendaya in a threesome with Josh and Mike.
CBFC Cleared Majority Of Intimate Scenes Without Cuts
A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “The CBFC’s Examining Committee didn’t intervene in this much-discussed scene.” Additionally, another intimate moment between Zendaya and a male actor, featuring Zendaya wearing a see-through bra, was left unaltered. Unlike past instances, like the editing of Florence Pugh’s nude scene in Oppenheimer, no alterations were necessary. The scene was passed without any cuts.
However, the CBFC did request changes. The source explained, “There’s a scene showing a male actor’s bare buttocks, which the CBFC refused to pass.” Consequently, the studio zoomed in on the actor to obscure the nudity. A similar adjustment was made in another scene where a character walks naked in the dressing room while two others are showering in the background.

Challengers Got ‘A’ Certificate After Few Other Changes
Furthermore, the CBFC’s cut list indicated the muting of an abusive word and the blurring of a cigarette brand. Following these modifications, Challengers received an ‘A’ certificate. Interestingly, the certificate was issued just a day before the film’s release on April 25.
About Challengers
Challengers is a 2024 drama directed by Luca Guadagnino, starring Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a retired tennis star now coaching. Her husband, Art Donaldson (played by Mike Faist), struggles to regain his champion status. To do so, he must confront his former friend Patrick (portrayed by Josh O’Connor), who is also Tashi’s ex-boyfriend. The movie delves into themes of love, competition, and second chances set in the world of tennis.
Zendaya’s character faces complex relationships and tough choices both on and off the court. The trailer teased the gripping drama and emotional conflicts at play in this sports film. Challengers has garnered positive feedback, boasting an IMDb rating of 7.8/10 and a Metascore of 85. It released in theatres on April 25, 2024.
