Mumbai’s South Cyber Police busted a major piracy operation linked to Vicky Kaushal’s film Chhaava. They arrested a 26-year-old man from Pune who streamed the film using a self-made app. This move comes soon after Salman Khan’s film Sikandar also got leaked online.
Pune Man Arrested For Chhaava Piracy
As per media reports, cops identified the accused as Sagar Manik Randhavan. He bought a domain through Hostinger and created an app that offered pirated movies, including Chhaava, to paying users. His app became a key tool in spreading pirated content across platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, YouTube and Google.
Between February 14 and March 20, police tracked 1,818 pirated links of Chhaava. These links caused big financial losses to producers Maddock Films and August Entertainment.
Rajat Rahul Haksar (CEO of August Entertainment) filed a complaint which led to the case. Police registered the FIR under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Copyright Act, Cinematograph Act and IT Act.
Cyber officials traced Randhavan to Daund in Pune. With help from local police and PSI Rupali Chaudhary, the team arrested him on April 10. He is in police custody until April 13. Investigators found that he charged users to access pirated films through his app.
While this arrest gave the makers of Chhaava some relief, the pressure is rising around the Sikandar case. A leaked version of the Salman Khan film surfaced online before its first theatre show. It was a raw, uncut copy, raising fears of an insider leak.
A close source shared, “This isn’t just casual piracy — it’s an organised setup. From school grounds to junctions, there were videos of Chhaava being screened publicly. The scale is disturbing.”
Industry Hopes For Action In Sikandar Leak Next
People in the film business are urging the authorities to speed up the probe into the Sikandar leak. Many believe security checks must be tighter at all stages – from post-production rooms to distribution.
The arrest of Randhavan is a start. But the industry wants consistent and tougher actions. With every leak, creators lose not just revenue but also months of effort and planning. One pirated link is enough to wreck a film’s box office fate.
