After a blockbuster run in Bollywood, Chhaava is now heading to Telugu cinemas with a grand release on March 7. Presented by Geetha Arts Distribution and directed by Laxman Utekar, this historical drama brings the powerful story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to a new audience.

Vicky Kaushal plays a fearless warrior Sambhaji Maharaj, carrying forward the legacy of his father Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The trailer highlights his fierce fight against the Mughal Empire, leading to a dramatic clash with Aurangzeb, played by Akshaye Khanna. One of the best moments in the trailer is Kaushal’s powerful dialogue: “The lion may be gone, but his cub still hunts in the jungle.”
Rashmika Mandanna stars as Sambhaji’s strong and supportive wife Yesubai. She brings emotional depth to the film as a woman who stands by her husband through war and hardship. Akshaye Khanna delivers a chilling performance as Aurangzeb by adding tension to the story. The film also features Diana Penty, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in key roles.
Cinematographer Saurabh Goswami captures stunning battle scenes, bringing the Maratha Empire to life. The film’s attention to detail extends to costumes, with Rashmika wearing traditional Paithani sarees featuring restored 500-year-old borders. Vicky Kaushal’s battle armour, weighing nearly 18 kg, adds realism to his performance.
AR Rahman’s background score heightens the film’s emotional and action-packed moments.

The Hindi version of Chhaava has already been a massive success, earning Rs 555.3 crore worldwide and Rs 484.3 crore in India (GBOC) within two weeks. Now, with its Telugu release, the film aims to reach an even larger audience. GA2 Pictures, known for distributing major Telugu hits, will bring the film to cinemas across the region.
Chhaava is set for a grand Telugu release on March 7, 2025.
