Rakul Preet Singh was reportedly enlisted by producer Ronnie Screwvala for a content-driven women-centric film in April of this year. According to reports, the actress will appear in the social comedy film as a condom tester. Despite the fact that the project was never formally announced, we’ve learned that the producers have now chosen to abandon it.
According to a reliable source, Ronnie Screwvala’s decision to abandon this unique project stems from the failure of the more recently released film Helmet, which dealt with a similar subject. Helmet, starring Aparkshati Khurana, was a quirky comedy that examined the topic of condom use and probed people’s views and thoughts about it. However, the film failed to build a buzz among the public, which was a source of concern for Rakul Preet Singh’s film’s producers.
Meanwhile, the directors of Rakul Preet Singh’s now-cancelled condom film titled it Chhatriwaali. It was intended to be a humorous drama that also served to de-stigmatize condom use. The film was intended to be a daring but lighthearted perspective on the subject, similar to Dream Girl. Before landing on Rakul’s lap, the film was presented to Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday. After hearing the narration, Sara declined the project, but Ananya and her team thought the concept and character were too risky for her. Tejas Deoskar, who directed Madhuri Dixit Nene in the Marathi film Bucket List (2018), was slated to direct the film.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa is working on a similar storyline for his next film Janhit Mein Jaari, in which Nushrratt Bharuccha plays a condom saleswoman.
