However, Lokesh Kanagaraj has put an end to these speculations in a clever move on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the filmmaker recently shared a photo from Rajinikanth’s look test for the film. This confirms that Coolie is indeed moving forward. He announced, “Look test for #Coolie; On floors from July.”

The speculation about Coolie being shelved gained traction when Lokesh Kanagaraj removed the film’s mention from his social media handle just before the scheduled shoot.
This action sparked concerns but was clarified later that it’s a routine practice until a film completes the censorship processes. Similar situations had occurred before the commencement of Kanagaraj’s previous projects, including the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Leo.
With Kanagaraj’s clarification and the unveiling of the look test photo, it’s now confirmed that Coolie remains firmly on track, much to the relief of eager fans.
What To Expect From Rajinikanth’s Coolie
Coolie marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s fifth directorial venture and his first collaboration with Superstar Rajinikanth. The director has hinted at portraying Rajinikanth in a negative role, diverging from his usual heroic portrayals.
Notably, Coolie stands alone as a film outside of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), a departure from his interconnected narrative style.
Earlier this year, a monochrome teaser for Coolie was released, instantly going viral and intensifying anticipation. The film’s ensemble cast includes veteran actor Sathyaraj, marking a significant reunion with Rajinikanth after nearly four decades.
Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, Coolie features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, known for his work in Vikram, and editing by Philomin Raj. The stunt choreography is helmed by the dynamic duo Anbariv, promising adrenaline-pumping action sequences.
