Deepika Padukone Still Part of Kalki 2: Rumours of Exit Are False
On June 5, an Instagram post that went viral claimed that Deepika Padukone had been dropped from the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, allegedly due to her asking to work fewer hours after becoming a mother. This gossip also claimed that there was on-set friction and possibly that Padukone’s role would be diminished.
No Truth To Removal Rumours; Shoot Not Even Started
Based on the reliable trade sources consulted, Kalki 2 has not even launched into production, which makes any rumours of “on-set friction” (even the suggestion of it) not only unfounded but quite absurd.
“How can there be friction on the sets? The film hasn’t even shot yet,” a source revealed. “The sequel officially starts filming in 2026, and Deepika is completely essential to the story.”
The source went on to explain that Deepika’s character was at the centre of the story in the first film and that the sequel will develop and continue her story arc, making the chances of her being dropped from the franchise virtually impossible.
A Targeted Narrative Against Deepika?
The unsubstantiated stories appear to have originated from a reported exit of Deepika from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, where (again) she allegedly wanted reduced working hours to balance motherhood.
Some of the social media handles in question appear to have exaggerated this context in order to create misinformation stories.
An industry insider commented:
“People creating these rumors are saying she has project losses. Truth is, she has the Atlee-Allu Arjun project, Shah Rukh Khan‘s King, and also starring in Kalki 2. Unprofessional actors do not get movies like these.“

Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, is a sci-fi epic with clear roots in Indian mythology. The film released on June 27, 2024, received rave reviews and was a box office hit, opening the door now to a sequel.
The sequel film will pick up where the dystopian mythological saga leaves off, with Deepika’s character playing a key role in the prophecy arc. Principal photography is scheduled to start in 2026. No change to the composite lead cast has been reported.
