Janhvi Kapoor’s Tollywood debut in Devara: Part 1 has been a buzzworthy topic, and Jr NTR has finally shed light on how she landed the role.
In a recent interview with Indian Express, the actor revealed that Janhvi had a lot to do with manifesting her role in the film, but Karan Johar’s recommendation also played a pivotal part.
Karan Johar RECOMMENDED Janhvi Kapoor’s Name For Devara
Jr NTR explained that during the scripting phase of Devara, the team hadn’t settled on who would play Thangam, the female lead. “Honestly, while writing the script, we hadn’t zeroed in on anybody to play the female lead,” he said. It was around this time that Karan Johar made a call, suggesting Janhvi for the role.
Jr NTR shared, “Karan Johar called me and said Jahnvi is a bright actor, and we should have her in the movie.” Despite the initial recommendation, the decision to cast Janhvi wasn’t made immediately.
He added, “Even then, the intention wasn’t there to cast her, but she manifested this so much that by the end of the writing process, we couldn’t not cast her in Devara.”
Janhvi Kapoor Was NERVOUS To Act In Telugu-Language Film
Jr NTR also spoke about Janhvi feeling nervous about acting in Telugu, a language she wasn’t familiar with. She had significant expectations to meet.
“She had a lot of fear and tension within her. How would she speak Telugu? How would she deliver her performance in Telugu? How would she dance, and most importantly, would she be able to live up to the legacy of Sridevi garu?,” Jr NTR said.
He acknowledged the pressure on Janhvi, given the legendary status of her late mother, Sridevi, and how that legacy continues to follow her. However, Jr NTR was pleasantly surprised by her performance. “She just shocked us with her performance,” he stated.
About Devara Part 1
Devara: Part 1 is a highly anticipated project, starring Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. In the film, Jr NTR portrays two characters: Devara, the father, and Varadha, his son. Saif Ali Khan plays Bhaira, while Janhvi steps into the role of Thangam.
The movie also boasts a strong supporting cast, including Shruti Marathe, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Shine Tom Chacko, and Narain. Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara: Part 1 is set to release in theatres on 27 September 2024.
This marks Jr NTR’s first solo film in six years, with his last being Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava in 2018. The stakes are high for Koratala Siva as well, following the underperformance of his last film Acharya.
Janhvi and Saif, both making their Telugu debuts, add to the excitement surrounding the film. For the unversed, Janhvi has already been signed up for another Telugu project alongside Ram Charan.
