Taiwan Ambassador Mumin Chen Calls Ranveer Singh And Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar The Most Impressive Film He Watched Last Year

Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has landed a striking vote of confidence from beyond the usual film conversation. At the Taiwan Film Festival in New Delhi on October 24, Mumin Chen, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, singled out the film as the Indian title that stayed with him the most over the past year. Speaking about his viewing choices, Chen said, “Because I am also a political science professor and right now working as an ambassador. So I watch a lot of political movies in India. So last year, the most impressive one I saw was Dhurandhar.”

Mumin Chen Picks Dhurandhar As His Standout Indian Film

Chen’s remarks gave the festival a distinctly Bollywood moment, but what made them stand out was the context behind them. His response came not as casual star fandom, but from someone who explicitly linked his academic training and diplomatic role to the kind of cinema he watches closely.

He also used the occasion to praise Aamir Khan’s contribution to Indian cinema. “And about Indian actors and also movie producers, I think Aamir Khan is very impressive,” Chen said. Reflecting on Khan’s work across phases of his career, he added, “Because I have been watching his film when he was young and he produces some very good movies about Indian societies, some very critical issues,” before broadening his appreciation with, “And of course, other bigger movie icons like Shah Rukh Khan, I also love them.”

The comments came as the Taiwan Film Festival brought a selection of Taiwanese documentaries and dramas to New Delhi, positioning the event as a cultural exchange platform between Taiwan and India. Within that setting, Chen’s mention of Dhurandhar gave the Hindi film an unexpected moment of international recognition.

Why Dhurandhar Connected

Chen’s choice also says something about the film’s reach beyond box office conversation. Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar built its appeal around espionage, statecraft and conflict rather than a conventional romance or comedy setup. For a viewer who approaches films through politics and public life, that mix clearly struck a chord.

That is what makes the endorsement feel timely. It arrives as Indian mainstream cinema continues to travel through festivals, diplomatic platforms and global cultural events in ways that go beyond theatrical business. In that setting, Dhurandhar is being noticed not just as a star vehicle, but as a film whose themes connected with an international representative in a public forum.

What The Endorsement Means For Ranveer Singh

For Ranveer Singh, the moment adds a different kind of validation to a recent run that has included Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023 and Singham Again in 2024. Those films kept him visible in mainstream commercial spaces, but Chen’s praise places Dhurandhar in another conversation, one shaped by cultural diplomacy and political storytelling.

It also reflects well on Aditya Dhar, whose filmmaking has often leaned into conflict, nationalism and strategic tension with a distinctly mainstream scale. When a title like Dhurandhar is picked out at an international festival setting for its impact, it suggests the film has traveled beyond domestic fandom and entered a broader cultural exchange. For both actor and director, that kind of recognition carries prestige that is very different from routine applause.
