Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar The Revenge has moved from box office conversation to a serious legal spotlight, with the Delhi High Court stepping in after concerns were raised over the film’s alleged disclosure of sensitive defence related information. The spy action drama is now under official scrutiny for its handling of military and intelligence themes.
The matter came before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia after Deepak Kumar, a Head Constable with the Sashastra Seema Bal, filed a Public Interest Litigation. The petitioner alleged that the film’s content may violate provisions of the Official Secrets Act and affect national security and integrity.
Delhi High Court Asks Authorities To Take An Informed Call
During the hearing, the Court acknowledged the film’s fictional and entertainment driven nature but underlined that the concerns raised in the plea required consideration. “Even if the movie is a work of fiction and imagination and is made for entertainment purposes, the impact of the movie can’t be denied,” the Bench observed.
The petition claimed that certain scenes and references in Dhurandhar The Revenge depict operational locations and characters inspired by senior officials and deceased servicemen. It also alleged that Dhurandhar 2 reveals details related to drugs being worked on by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
Rather than imposing direct restrictions, the High Court directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification to treat the petition as a formal representation. “The censor board should have some guidelines. We will only direct you to consider his representation and take an informed decision,” the Court stated during proceedings.
In its order, the Court said, “Having regard to the nature of issue and concerns raised in the petition, we are of the opinion that the concerns raised by the petitioner needs to be considered and addressed appropriately. We dispose of the writ petition with direction to MIB and CBFC to consider the entire writ petition as a representation and take an appropriate decision on the issue raised therein,”.

The film released theatrically on March 19, 2026, after Dhurandhar, which arrived in December 2025. Its story continues the world of covert operations, following an undercover Indian intelligence agent as he navigates criminal networks and political power structures while working to dismantle a terror threat against India.

For Dhurandhar The Revenge, the next key move rests with the authorities tasked by the Court to examine the plea and take an appropriate decision.
