Even before the much-anticipated Vettaiyan hits cinemas, director TJ Gnanavel is already making waves with his next project. Announced as his follow-up, Dosa King promises to be a gripping crime thriller.
The film, backed by Junglee Pictures, will dive into the intense legal battles surrounding P Rajagopal, the infamous owner of Hotel Saravana Bhavan, and Jeevajothi Santhakumar.
A Film On Hotel Saravana Bhavan’s P Rajagopal
Hotel Saravana Bhavan, a beloved restaurant chain with a global presence, is renowned for its high-quality South Indian cuisine. But the restaurant’s reputation took a dark turn when its owner, Rajagopal, became embroiled in a notorious murder case.
Rajagopal’s ambition and power led to a shocking crime: he hired contract killers to murder Jeevajothi’s husband, Prince Santhakumar, in a desperate attempt to force Jeevajothi into marriage.
The case became a high-profile legal battle, with Jeevajothi ultimately winning justice when Rajagopal was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court. However, Rajagopal passed away before serving his sentence.
TJ Gnanavel Set To Explore The Scandal In His Upcoming Crime Thriller Dosa King
TJ Gnanavel, known for his acclaimed legal drama Jai Bhim, will take on this dramatic real-life story with Dosa King. Alongside writer Hemanth Rao, Gnanavel aims to bring a fresh perspective to this complex case.
“The fictional drama chronicles events inspired by the rise and fall of the legendary and globally famous empire, Saravana Bhavan, built by P Rajagopal, and the fearless Jeevajothi who took on the powerful tycoon,” the makers stated.
Gnanavel, who has a personal connection to the case, having covered it as a journalist, is excited to explore the untold aspects of the story. “While the press sensationalised many details, much of the story remains untold. Dosa King exposes how the system functions, with a focus on the crime and thriller aspects of the narrative,” he said.
“I want to explore the extreme situations of life and tell a deeper story with an untold perspective on the case. This film is my chance to share a story I witnessed firsthand 20 years ago,” he added
As for Vettaiyan, fans can look forward to its release on October 10, coinciding with Dussehra. The film stars a stellar cast including Salman Khan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and Amitabh Bachchan.
