Vir Hirani, son of Dunki director Rajkumar Hirani, is stepping into the spotlight with his acting debut in the play Letters from Suresh. Directed by Feroze Abbas Khan, the production offers a reboot version of Tumhari Amrita, originally starring the late Farooq Sheikh and Shabana Azmi.
A recent graduate of London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Vir Hirani brings a wealth of talent honed through years of filmmaking, beginning in his teenage years. The roots of Tumhari Amrita trace back to A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, adapted into Hindi/Urdu by playwright Javed Siddiqui in 1992 at Khan’s request.
Vir Hirani Made His Directorial Debut With ‘Return Gift’
Vir Hirani’s creative journey extends beyond the stage. His directorial debut, Return Gift, premiered at the esteemed International Children’s Film Festival of India in Hyderabad. Inspired by a poignant family tale shared by his grandmother, the film competed in the Festival’s Little Directors category.
The original production of Tumhari Amrita premiered at Mumbai’s Prithvi Theatre on February 27, 1992, as a tribute to the late Jennifer Kapoor. Now, with Letters from Suresh set to captivate audiences anew, Vir faces the challenge of upholding the legacy of Tumhari Amrita, embodying the spirit of Farooq Sheikh’s iconic role.
