A film shoot involving Emraan Hashmi in Haridwar hit an unexpected flashpoint after a mock set board reading “Cafe & Bar” drew strong objections from locals in the holy city. Videos from the location travelled across social media on Thursday, June 11, showing a tense exchange between residents and members of the production team as security personnel tried to manage the crowd.
The incident took place while the actor was in Uttarakhand for a film shoot. Emraan was not seen in the viral footage from the spot, but his presence in the state has been noticed through fan videos and public sightings.
Locals Object To Cafe And Bar Board In Haridwar
The protest centred on a temporary restaurant set created for filming. The signboard carried the words “Cafe & Bar”, which angered residents who felt that the word “Bar” was inappropriate in Haridwar, a city closely associated with pilgrimage, the Ganga ghats, and Hindu religious traditions.
In the video, locals are seen questioning the crew over the board while members of the unit attempt to calm the situation. Security staff are also visible at the location. As opposition intensified, the word “Bar” was removed from the board, after which the situation was brought under control. In the clip, people can be heard saying, “Yes, remove it… take it down completely.”
Neither Emraan Hashmi nor the film team has issued an official statement on the protest. The makers have also not formally announced the complete details of the project being filmed in Haridwar.
The Shoot Continues To Draw Attention
The controversy has put the spotlight on how film sets are managed in religious locations, especially when fictional signage or props are used in public spaces. Haridwar often sees large crowds around popular areas, and the presence of a Bollywood unit can quickly attract public attention.
The latest visuals show the disagreement centered on the signboard, with the production team moving quickly to defuse the matter. For now, the project remains under wraps, though the presence of Emraan and Aparshakti Khurana in Uttarakhand has added curiosity around the film.
