Emraan Hashmi’s supernatural thriller EZRA to premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video?

Ezra will be Emraan's second web venture after his Netflix spy thriller web series, Bard of Blood, produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment.

There have been reports around many Hindi films, heading to straight digital release, with theaters shut due to the second wave lockdown. The films that are either confirmed or in discussion with OTT platforms include Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom, Farhan Akhtar’s Toofaan, Vidya Balan’s Sherni and Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor’s Bhoot Police and Shilpa Shetty and Paresh Rawal’s Hungama 2 for now.

It’s also being said that Disney+Hotstar is building its slate of small to medium budget Hindi films, and is expected to announce it very soon.

Now, the latest film to join this line up is Emraan Hashmi’s supernatural horror thriller Ezra, which is the remake of a 2017 critically-acclaimed Malayalam film of the same name. The film has been directed by Jay Krishnan, who also directed the original.

As per peepingmoon, the global streaming giant, Amazon Prime Video has bought the rights to film for a direct-to-digital release and is set to premiere it sometime around July 2021.

The film went on floors in July 2019 and wrapped up late last year. The entire film was shot in Mumbai and Mauritius and now, it’s ready for release after its post production.

The film also stars Nikita Dutta, Darshana Banik, Manav Kaul, and Vipin Sharma. It is apparently the fourth Hindi film title that Amazon Prime has acquired in the last few months after the biggies like Bell Bottom, Toofaan, and Sherni. Although the news around Bell Bottom is not confirmed by official sources.

The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Krishan Kumar and Abhishek Pathak.
