Fatima Sana Shaikh is one of the few child actors who made a name for herself in Bollywood in adulthood. Her first role was in 1997 with Chachi 420 starring Kamal Haasan. In the film, she played the role of Kamal’s daughter. She then continued to do minor roles in several movies but her major break came in 2016 with Aamir Khan‘s blockbuster Dangal.
In a recent interview with Humans of Cinema, Fatima opened up about her thoughts on names like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. Calling herself an SRK fan, Fatima said: “I am a Shah Rukh Khan fan, but I feel Aamir Khan has given us a lot of films like Rang De Basanti, PK, Peepli Live, all of these films are so different.”
She also opened up about Vicky Kaushal, with whom she is working on Meghan Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur. “Vicky is too good. What an actor. He is so good. After we shot together, I told him ‘It was really nice working with you.’ But he is kind of an actor who transforms. He is outstanding. I can’t tell you how good an actor he is. And he is such a good co-actor, gives cues, always there, there is no drama, no tantrums, very simple guy. He is very talented. I think of our generation, he is the best actor. I truly feel that. So I really enjoyed working with him.”
Fatima Got Her Big Break With Aamir Khan
After making her debut as a child actor, Fatima was seen doing small roles in films like One 2 Ka 4, Tahaan, Bittoo Boss, and Akash Vaani. However, she catapulted into fame and success with Nitesh Tiwari’s biographical sports drama Dangal. The film was based on the real Phogat sisters who are wrestlers. Starring Fatima, Aamir Khan, and Sanya Malhotra, the film went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film and met with overwhelmingly positive responses. Since then, she has acted in several films.
Fatima’s Upcoming Projects
Fatima was last seen in 2022 in the Netflix drama thriller Thar. The film, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor, met with mostly positive responses. She will be next portraying former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur. The film stars Vicky Kaushal as the titular ex-Army chief. It will release on 1 December. Apart from this, she has also finished filming for Dhak Dhak, which is based on a group of girls going on a bike trip. It also stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead.
