Gadar 2 Director Anil Sharma SLAMS Actors’ Inflated Entourage Costs: ‘Unki Itni Value Nahi Reh Gayi Ki Public Unko Dekhne Aye’

Anil Sharma has joined the list of filmmakers who talked about risig entourage costs of actors. Check what he said!

Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma is the latest one to speak about the rising costs associated with actors’ entourage in Bollywood. Sharma’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the increasing demands of actors on film sets and their impact on the industry’s performance.

During an interview with Hindustan Times, Sharma did not hold back. He remarked, “Actors have the audacity to increase their entourage costs at a time when their films aren’t even working in theatres. Actors ki itni value hi nahi reh gayi ab ki public unko dekhne aaye.”

Sharma pointed out that the current trend of high entourage costs is unwarranted, especially when films are struggling to draw audiences.

Anil Sharma Says Public Watches Them On OTT Due To ‘Helplessness’

Sharma emphasised that only a handful of actors still have the “value and pull” to attract cinema-goers. He compared the current situation unfavourably to the past, when films featuring stars like Dharmendra would see tickets booked well in advance. “Gone are those times when we (Hindi film industry) used to make films with Dharmendra and many others, with tickets getting booked a week in advance. It doesn’t happen now,” Sharma lamented.

He also highlighted a significant shift in audience behaviour, noting that people now turn to OTT platforms out of necessity rather than preference. “The public is not coming to see you in theatres. OTT par aapko majboori mein dekhti hain, woh bhi 25 mein se 2 films dekh li toh dekh li. You don’t even know if your film is a flop or hit. You put a mark on it on your own and live in your own world,” Sharma added.

Anil Sharma Claims Current Gen Actors Focus More On Social Media & Less On Films

Sharma’s criticism extended to the current generation of actors, whom he accused of focusing more on social media than on their cinematic craft. “Actors these days are working only for social media. Either they are earning from Instagram or advertising, cinema se unko kuch nahi mil raha kyunki unko public dekhne hi nahi aarahi. It is the bitter truth,” he said. He stressed that, aside from a few leading heroes, no one else seems to have the power to fill theatres on weekends.

Furthermore, Sharma expressed concerns about the content being produced in Bollywood. He believes many filmmakers are out of touch with what works in India. “Content plays a very important role. I feel that many directors, writers, and actors haven’t even seen the world beyond Versova and Bandra. Hence, they don’t even know what kind of content works in India,” Sharma noted.

He added that many are limited to creating content that suits urban and OTT audiences, rather than the broader Indian market.

For the unversed, the director has also planned Gadar 3 after the huge success of Gadar 2. However, there’s no clarity on whether Sunny Deol & Ameesha Patel will be a part of the third instalment.
