In recent years, Bollywood has been accused of encouraging nepotism and elevating star children. People started trolling Zoya Akhtar’s next film, The Archies, for featuring star kids like Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda while conveniently ignoring the fact that the other four leads in the film aren’t from film families.
Despite the hostility surrounding Bollywood on social media, South Indian films, particularly those from the Telugu film industry, have been doing well in the Hindi markets.
Pointing out the fact that the majority of the stars from the Telugu film industry belong to film families and yet people have no issues about it while criticizing Bollywood for the same, Gulshan Devaiah tweeted, “Observation: Hindi film audiences will happily watch dubbed films of a second/third/fourth generation star kid & not have any nepotism ki khujli (at least on social media)”.

Responding to Gulshan’s tweet, screenwriter Somen Mishra tweeted, “Tamil/Telugu/mallu Bhar Bhar ke Nepo idhar Nepo udhar. Kuch fark nahi padta hai. Sara gyaan only for bolly”.
Another user replied, “South Film Industry is Nepotist. Bollywood is Atleast a Level Playing Field. Films like Janhit Mein Jaari Bhool Bhoolaiyaan 2 and Dhakkad are releasing which consist of Outsiders. The Audience has the Power to make them or Break Them.”

Another user wrote, “Maybe thats cuz star kids in south invest themselves into something called “acting”. Not out of a college in London or Switzerland and straight onto the sets in Mumbai. At least, that’s what Ananya Pandey and the likes look like.
