After years of delays, the biopic of music mogul Gulshan Kumar is back in motion. Bhushan Kumar, son of the late T-Series founder, has been working to bring his father’s story to life since 2017.
The film titled Mogul was initially announced with Akshay Kumar in the lead, under the direction of Subhash Kapoor. However, creative differences led to Akshay leaving the project.
Aamir Khan then stepped in as both actor and co-producer, but in 2018, he pulled out after allegations against Subhash Kapoor surfaced during the #MeToo movement.
Gulshan Kumar Biopic Revived After 8 Years
As per a Peeping Moon report, Mogul is making a comeback after 8 years. Bhushan Kumar has brought in Tushar Hiranandani to direct, with a fresh vision and approach.
Hiranandani is known for his successful biographical dramas and has earned acclaim for his work on Srikanth (a biopic about a visually impaired industrialist). Bhushan Kumar believes he’s the right choice to handle his father’s story with the required sensitivity and authenticity.
Tushar Hiranandani’s previous work, including Saand Ki Aankh (which tells the story of sharpshooters Chandro and Prakashi Tomar) and the SonyLIV series Scam 2003 has shown his skill in handling real-life stories.
The film is now progressing quickly with Hiranandani and his team working on a new screenplay. Bhushan Kumar is closely overseeing the script to ensure it accurately portrays his father’s incredible journey, his contributions to the music industry, and his lasting impact. The goal is to make the film resonate with modern audiences.
Casting Not Finalised Yet, Production Begins In Early 2026
While casting has not been confirmed, rumours about Ranbir Kapoor playing Gulshan Kumar surfaced. However, sources close to the film have denied these claims, confirming that Ranbir is not part of the project.
The makers plan to approach actors once the script is finalised. Production is expected to start in early 2024, bringing this long-awaited biopic closer to reality. Fans of Gulshan Kumar and the T-Series legacy can finally look forward to seeing his life story on the big screen.
