What’s Delaying The Highly-Ambitious Gulshan Kumar Biopic Starring Aamir Khan? Bhushan Kumar Says ‘My Mother Wants To…’

Gulshan Kumar biopic with Aamir Khan faces further delay. Bhushan's family reservations have led to script revisions that are holding up production.

The much-anticipated Gulshan Kumar biopic, starring Aamir Khan, has hit a delay, but the project is still very much in the works. The film, initially announced in 2019, was set to be an inspiring account of the late T-Series founder’s life.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the project, the film has encountered some delays & hurdles, primarily due to family reservations and script revisions.

Bhushan Kumar Shares The Reason Behind The Delay Of Gulshan Kumar Biopic

T-Series head Bhushan Kumar recently opened up about the current status of the biopic during an interview with Cine Connect. “We are still writing it,” he said. The producer revealed that although the script was initially ready, it was never officially announced.

“It was superb, even though we officially didn’t announce it, everyone knew that Aamir Khan was going to be a part of it. He still wants to, he always tells me, it is the best script he has read in recent times,” he added.

Despite the enthusiasm from Aamir, family concerns, particularly from Bhushan’s mother, have slowed the film’s progress.

Bhushan elaborated on the situation, sharing that his mother had specific reservations about how the story should be told.

“She wanted to tell the story from one perspective, and we wrote the script from another perspective,” he said.

This difference of opinion has led to some delays as the team works to reconcile these perspectives. Bhushan emphasised that the film cannot move forward without his mother’s approval. The producer noted, “Obviously, I cannot make a film on my father if my mother is not convinced about it.”

Producer Says ‘We Are Not Whitewashing’ The Script

The biopic, tentatively titled Mogul, aims to shed light on the inspiring life of Gulshan Kumar, who was tragically murdered in 1997. Despite the family’s concerns, Bhushan made it clear that the film will not whitewash any part of his father’s life. The film will instead offer a more comprehensive and honest portrayal of the late music mogul.

“We are not whitewashing it, just revamping a few things,” he said. “My mother also wants the world to know some stories about him that a lot of people don’t know.”

While the biopic’s script undergoes these revisions, Aamir Khan, who was previously attached to the project, remains committed. The actor has expressed that he’s eager to take on the role, calling it one of the best scripts he’s read in recent times. However, until the script aligns with the family’s perspective, production remains on hold.

Aamir’s Work Front

On Aamir’s work front, the actor is also involved in Sitaare Zameen Par, a sequel to his iconic film Taare Zameen Par. Aamir will reunite with child actor Darsheel Safary after 16 years, as they take the story forward.

Additionally, Aamir is producing Lahore 1947, a film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol.
