Bollywood veteran Rajiv Rai is making a return to filmmaking with his latest project, Zora. Known for directing hits like Tridev, Vishwatma, Mohra, and Gupt, Rai is stepping back into the limelight after a long break.
His production company, Trimurti Films Pvt. Ltd., was once renowned for its high-energy action films and lavish sets.
Rajiv Rai Has Finished Shooting His Comeback Film Zora
Rai’s comeback film, Zora, is a fast-paced crime thriller set to hit theatres by the end of the year. “Yes, I am back. I have finished shooting my new film Zora, and it’s now in its final post-production stage, which is almost complete,” Rai told reporters as quoted by Bollywood Hungama.
He highlighted that this film marks a significant shift from his previous work. “The basic difference this time around is that my film doesn’t boast big names or stars. It features almost 40 new faces from across the northern Hindi belt and has been made on a shoestring budget,” he said.
The Filmmaker Has Worked With THESE Big Names In The Past
Rai has a history of spotting and nurturing emerging talent. He previously worked with stars like Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, and Bobby Deol before they became famous.
“When I signed Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty for Mohra, they were rising stars. New talent has always attracted me,” Rai reflected. His approach with Zora continues this tradition of championing new faces.
Zora To Have Minimal Music Unlike His Other Films
Unlike his previous blockbusters that featured numerous hit songs, Zora will feature minimal music. “There’s no scope for songs in the script,” Rai explained.
However, the film will include a song by Viju Shah and a continuous background score. Rai has tailored Zora to appeal to single-screen cinema audiences, aiming to offer a commercial yet engaging experience.
Rajiv Rai On His Film’s Modest Budget
Addressing the shift towards smaller budgets, Rai acknowledged the challenges of the current cinematic landscape. “OTT is here to stay, and cinema is in grave danger. But Zora is a pure commercial mass entertainer yet written and executed intelligently,” he said.
Despite the film’s modest budget, Rai has not compromised on quality. “It’s a rugged yet stylish and engrossing film. I suspect people will say it has a Rajiv Rai stamp,” he added.
As Zora approaches its release, Rai is optimistic about its reception. “I am very happy with the outcome and the end result. Like every filmmaker, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. I hope, as all directors do, that audiences like Zora,” he concluded.
