Following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which took the lives of 26 people, the debate about the appropriateness of Pakistani actors in Indian entertainment has once again resurfaced—this time surrounding Diljit Dosanjh‘s upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3.
Reports say the actress, Hania Aamir, who has been cast alongside Diljit and Neeru Bajwa, may lose her role due to public outrage in combination with backlash from industry people.
FWICE Responds Again After Pahalgam
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reportedly repeated its request to ban all Pakistani artistes from Indian films on the basis of national security and sentiments.
While the production team behind Sardaar Ji 3 has yet to issue any official statements, sources say they are thinking about reshooting Hania’s scenes with another actress because of the public outrage leading up to the film release scheduled for June 27, 2025.
A Cross-Lines Cast Now in Question
Sardaar Ji 3 is the third film in the popular Punjabi comedy franchise combining supernatural fun and mass appeal. Diljit Dosanjh reprises his role as the ghost-hunting Sardaar, with Neeru Bajwa now confirmed as the actress who was said to have each other’s interest upon closure of the casting.
Although Hania Aamir’s casting generated regional buzz and excitement for her casting following the success of her Pakistani dramas and social media footprint, the changing political climate may very well dash that adventure.
Will Hania be recast?
With the mood being what it is following the attacks, some in the trade believe that the producers may quietly recast the role rather than issuing a public statement—and thus be able to manage some of the public sentiment in the interim while preserving the commercial viability of the project.
History dictates that mid-production changes have taken place previously, invariably when sentiment changes suddenly, politically.
