Ram Gopal Varma is heading back to the Mumbai crime universe with a film that immediately signals conflict, control and consequence. The filmmaker has announced Police Company, a T-Series-backed drama with Harshvardhan Rane cast as Daya Nayak, placing the actor at the center of a story shaped by gang wars, encounter policing and one of the city’s most turbulent phases.
The reveal arrived through Varma’s X post, accompanied by stills of Rane and a long note that directly mapped the film against the surge in underworld violence and police action in Mumbai between 1997 and 2004. The post made clear that Police Company is built around the special squad formed during that period and its connection to Daya Nayak.

In his announcement on X, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “My NEXT film’s NAME being produced by T SERIES is .. POLICE COMPANY”. He also revealed the tagline, “It Is More Dangerous Than D Company “.
Setting up the premise, Varma wrote, “The police is an institution, and an underworld company is a money making organisation.. But when an institution is given extra powers, it will soon become a company”.
He further traced the underworld backdrop in the same note, writing, “After DAWOOD IBRAHIM brutally finished most of his rival gangs, he grew his GANG into a COMPANY and then left for DUBAI leaving his protégée CHOTA RAJAN to head the operations of D COMPANY.” He added that the split between Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan created a vacuum that intensified gang activity across Mumbai.
Varma also stated, “In a panicky situation a special squad was created which in between 1997 and 2004 killed more than 300 gangsters.” Confirming the central inspiration behind the film, he wrote, “POLICE COMPANY is the story inspired from that SQUAD based on one of its team members DAYA NAYAK which is being played by HARSH VARDHAN RANE ..The film has a huge ensemble cast, the details of which will be revealed soon.”
A Return To Varma’S Most Combustible Terrain
With Police Company, Varma is once again working in a space that has long been central to his screen identity, the collision point between organized crime, fear and state response in Mumbai. The newly revealed note gives the film a defined historical frame, while the title points to a story designed to examine a police unit operating under extraordinary pressure during a moment of civic breakdown.

The actor’s next slate shows that momentum turning into a sharper career pivot. Sanam Teri Kasam 2 was officially confirmed earlier in 2026, while Silaa has also been publicly discussed as part of his current phase on screen. With Police Company, Rane now moves into a role rooted in real-world notoriety and a far more hard-edged dramatic zone, giving this announcement added weight beyond a routine casting update.
