Actor Sonu Sood has landed in a controversy on social media after defending a food vendor who was caught spitting on a customer’s food. He talked about shabari’s scene in Ramayana in reaction to the vendor’s act. The controversy has also drawn sharp criticism from actor and politician Kangana Ranaut.
Kangana Ranaut Reacts To Sonu Sood’s Defensive Comment
Kangana Ranaut took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her disapproval. “Next you know Sonu ji will direct his own Ramayana based on his own personal findings about God and religion. Wah kya baat hai Bollywood se ek aur Ramayana,” she posted, criticising Sood’s defence of the vendor’s actions.

Kangana’s remarks came in response to another post that condemned Sood’s comments. The post highlighted that Sood had compared the act of spitting on food to Lord Ram eating berries offered by Shabri, a character from Hindu mythology.
Sood had defended the act by saying, “If Lord Ram could eat Shabri’s berries, why can’t I eat rotis that have been spat upon?” He labelled the act as an example of “humanity” and emphasised that “Humanity must remain intact.”
हमारे श्री राम जी ने शबरी के झूठे बेर खाए थे तो मैं क्यों नहीं खा सकता

Here’s How It Started
The controversy erupted when a video surfaced showing a boy preparing rotis and spitting on the dough. This footage was shared in response to Sonu Sood’s reaction to recent orders by Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar authorities. These orders required eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners.
Sonu Sood’s subsequent comment comparing the spitting to Lord Ram’s acceptance of Shabri’s berries sparked outrage.
In response, a user suggested sending the spit-covered rotis to Sood to “maintain brotherhood.” One user criticised his defence, saying, “Itna bhi defend maat karo, galat ko bhi sahi proof karne mein lage ho,” implying that his defence was misguided.
Many social media users were quick to voice their frustration. One comment read, “Sonu, nonsense is at its place and truth is at its place, the one who makes this roti is neither Mother Shabari nor are you Ram? Mother Shabari is the symbol of love, this person is spitting in hatred.”
Another user added, “Mother Shabari was a devotee of Lord Rama and she had not made the berries impure out of malice. The person shown in the video is spitting on the roti out of hatred, not to check if it’s properly cooked.”
Sonu Sood Responds After Severe Backlash
In the face of growing backlash, Sonu Sood addressed the criticism in a post, asserting: “मैंने खाने में थूकने वालों को कभी सही नहीं बताया। वो उनका चरित्र है जो कभी नहीं बदलेगा। इसके लिए उन्हें कढ़ीं सज़ा भी दें। लेकिन इंसानियत को इंसानियत ही रहने दें दोस्त।” (I have never condoned people who spit in food. That is their character which will never change. They should be given strict punishment for it. But let humanity remain humanity, my friend.) He further expressed admiration for the Uttar Pradesh government and emphasised that, despite the controversy, he remains dedicated to helping those in need.
