Himesh Reshammiya recently reflected on his journey in music and films. In a chat with Farah Khan on her vlog, he spoke about the inspiration behind Badass Ravi Kumar and how Salman Khan played a key role in his career.

Himesh Reshammiya On Making Badass Ravi Kumar

Himesh shared that his latest film was inspired by his childhood love for Indian cinema. He said, “The character in Badass Ravikumar stems from childhood memories about Indian cinema. Even in my music albums, whenever I choose to sing 90s songs, they have connected quite well. So, I feel that people are still in love with all the retro stuff.” He also mentioned that the popular line “logic optional” perfectly captured the film’s fun and stress-free nature.

Himesh Reshammiya Recalls Signing Salman For His Father’s Film

Himesh also spoke about his admiration for Aamir Khan. He recalled watching Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 and predicting its success. “I just love Aamir Khan. His film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was just great. In 1988, I was taken for the film’s trial, and a lot of people had doubts about how it would perform. But I told my dad that this film would break all records, and he didn’t believe me,” he shared. The film’s success helped him gain his father’s trust, which led him to venture into production.

He revealed that they almost signed Aamir for a film, but things didn’t work out. Instead, they turned to Salman Khan. The film never got made, but this connection with Salman changed Himesh’s career.

On How Salman Khan Helped Kickstart His Music Career

Himesh credited Salman for giving him his first big break in Bollywood music. He explained, “We had almost signed Aamir for a film. His conversations were on with my father, but it didn’t materialise and we signed Salman Khan. That film didn’t get made, but I got my break. Even though Salman didn’t do my dad’s film, he remembered that my music was good, and he got me a song in Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya.”

Himesh also recalled the challenge of creating the film’s title track. Since Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya was already an iconic song from Mughal-E-Azam, it was tough to give it a fresh touch. However, with Salman’s support and Sohail Khan’s approval, the song became a hit and helped him make a mark in Bollywood.

Despite Himesh’s passion for the project, Badass Ravikumar did not perform well at the box office, earning less than Rs 10 crores in India. However, he remains optimistic and believes that audiences will continue to appreciate retro-inspired storytelling.
