The Housefull series of films has always been about confusion and chaos, but this time, it was not happening on screen. In a startling turn of events, Housefull 5 was now involved in litigation when the teaser for the film, released on May 9, 2023, was removed on YouTube. The reason? Mofusion Studios filed a copyright strike, alleging that the use of Laal Pari, the song shown in the teaser, infringed on their copyright.
What followed was the supercharged, fast-acting Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment (NGE) finding protected action. They launched a defamation suit against Mofusion Studios for ₹25 crores and against YouTube. NGE also produced a valuable exhibit – a written letter granting Yo Yo Honey Singh exclusive rights to the song.
A source close to this development stated, “The strike was without merit. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment had all legal documents. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s written letter was a game changer, providing conclusive evidence that the copyright claim was a fraudulent one. Once YouTube verified their information, the strike was removed and the teaser was restored today, on May 16.”
The re-emergence of the teaser has had its mark on fans alike, especially with its famous cast show of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and a plethora of a cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez, Fardeen Khan, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, and Nana Patekar.
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana), Housefull 5 looks as though it will feature all the manic comedy and multi-layered chaos we have come to love and expect from the franchise. Now that the teaser is back on track and the court case has been settled, all that remains is for the film to hit theatres on Bakri Eid, June 6th, 2025.
