The number of Covid-19 cases in the country has increased dramatically since December 2021, presumably related to the Omicron strain. Despite the fact that the number of serious hospitalisation cases and deaths is insignificant, there is concern that the unexpected increase in cases will once again put a strain on our healthcare system. As early as December 28, the Delhi government was the first to shut down theatres. Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor, was postponed as a result. On December 31, the sports drama was set to hit theatres. Meanwhile, the year 2022 began with the announcement that S S Rajamouli’s RRR will be delayed indefinitely.
As the number of cases grew rapidly day by day, everyone began to anticipate that more and more governments would ask cinemas to close. In such a situation, releasing a major motion picture can be perilous. And for big-budget movie producers, releasing their film in such uncertain times might be suicide.
Prithviraj’s producers, Yash Raj Films (YRF), have opted to postpone the release of their film, according to Bollywood Hungama. “When you have a sure shot blockbuster at hand that will appeal to audiences across the country, you can’t gamble with such a huge product. Prithviraj will massively aid in bringing people back to the theatres and it can’t be released at a time when it won’t fulfil this purpose. Business wise too, it doesn’t make sense to compromise a film that will rake in the moolah at the box office. It’s a no-brainer to postpone the film and gauge Omicron and the COVID-19 scenario before taking a call on the next release date of the film,” revealed a trade source.
“YRF was waiting till the last minute to see if the situation in India and overseas improves but the pace with which Coronavirus cases are accelerating, it forced their hand to hold on to the biggest title. Everyone is looking at Prithviraj to take the box office by storm and set some new milestones in the post-pandemic era and YRF is committed to this belief. They will put this project out when it can set the box office on fire,” the source added.
Prithviraj also stars Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt, and Manushi Chhillar, who makes her acting debut. Dr. Chandraprakesh Dwivedi is the director. On November 15, YRF released the film’s teaser, which received a lot of positive feedback. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film’s trailer was meant to be released on December 27, however it was postponed while YRF monitored the Covid-19 issue.
