Sunny Deol isn’t ready to let go of his action-packed character from Jaat. Just a week after the film’s release, the actor has surprised fans by announcing the sequel, Jaat 2. This comes despite the film’s lacklustre box office performance.
However, the announcement suggests that the makers still believe in the film’s potential and are confident that it will eventually recover its investment.
Sunny Deol And Makers Announce Jaat 2
Sunny took to Instagram to confirm the sequel. On Thursday morning, he shared a poster for Jaat 2 and wrote, “#Jaat on to a New Mission! #Jaat2”.
The poster confirmed that director Gopichand Malineni would return to helm the sequel. Alongside the poster, the names of the producers (Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y, and TG Vishwa Prasad) were also mentioned, with Mythri Movie Makers backing the film once again.
While no other cast members have been announced, the poster makes it clear that Sunny Deol would return to reprise his role.
About The First Instalment
The original Jaat was a big deal for Sunny Deol, marking his first pan-India action film. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film also marked the director’s debut in Hindi cinema. The cast includes Randeep Hooda as the antagonist, along with Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Vineet Kumar Singh, and others in key roles.
While critics had mixed-to-positive reviews, the action sequences and performances, particularly by Sunny and Randeep, were widely praised by the audience.
Despite the buzz around the performances, Jaat hasn’t been the box office success that many expected. Released on April 10, the film opened with a modest Rs 9.62 crore in India.
Over the first week, it managed to earn Rs 57.97 crore net in India and around Rs 75 crore globally. However, as the collections continue to drop, it seems unlikely that the film will break the Rs 100-crore barrier worldwide, and may just struggle to reach that milestone in India alone.
Given the lukewarm reception at the box office, the decision to move forward with a sequel has raised some eyebrows in the industry. Many are wondering why the makers are confident about the future of Jaat 2 when the first film has not yet fully recovered its budget.
Still, the confidence shown by Sunny Deol and the producers suggests that they believe in the franchise’s potential to pick up steam in the long run.
