Jaat, the latest action film starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, has sparked backlash just days after its release. A scene set in a church has upset the Christian community, with many calling the visuals disrespectful. Some protestors have also demanded a complete ban on the film.
The Controversial Scene In Jaat That’s Facing Backlash
The controversy started after a trailer clip showed Randeep Hooda’s character standing under a crucifix near the sacred pulpit in a church. Another scene showed people praying during a tense moment. The trailer also hinted at violence inside the church, which has upset many Christian leaders.
Protest videos quickly went viral on social media. People could be seen shouting slogans like “Randeep Hooda murdabad.” Community leaders claimed the film disrespects the pulpit and hurts their religious sentiments.
They had planned to protest outside cinemas screening Jaat, but the police stopped them. Instead, the protestors submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner. They demanded a ban on the film and legal action against the cast and crew. They also gave a 48-hour ultimatum and warned of bigger protests if authorities don’t take action.

Jaat released in theatres on April 10. Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory produced the film. Apart from Sunny and Randeep, the cast also includes Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Zarina Wahab, P Ravi Shankar, and Babloo Prithiveeraj.
The film tells the story of a mysterious man (played by Sunny) who arrives in Chirala, a village in Andhra Pradesh. He comes face to face with Ranatunga (played by Randeep) and Bharathi (Regina), a powerful couple who control the village. The fight starts off small but soon turns into a full-blown battle for justice.
Despite the controversy, Jaat has had a strong start at the box office. As per early trade updates, it crossed Rs 50 crore in less than a week.
