Janhvi Kapoor’s Chuttamalle deepfake controversy has entered a more contentious phase after Ram Gopal Varma argued that the public outrage around it only gave the offensive clip even greater visibility. His comments have added a confrontational new angle to a case that has already triggered strong reactions across the film industry and sharpened the conversation around AI abuse.
Varma weighed in through posts on X after an AI-morphed version of Janhvi from the Devara: Part 1 song Chuttamalle began circulating online. The backlash quickly drew responses from Janhvi and several film personalities who rallied behind her. In her own note, Janhvi wrote, “This is disgusting and deeply disturbing,” making her position on the violation unmistakably clear.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Take On The Backlash
Varma did not hold back while questioning the way celebrities responded. He wrote, “The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in, is to publicise and thereby make crores and crores of people see the objectionable link.. The smart thing would have been to concentrate on catching the perpetrator and publicise that.. Instead what they did is to tweet and bring enormous attention to the victim’s identity and the offensive content which is also a crime.”

He followed that with another stark line on the growing power of artificial intelligence: “When you can’t WIN, you should JOIN…. If you fight A I, it will ERASE you out of EXISTENCE.”
His intervention has split the conversation into two camps. One insists public condemnation is necessary to show solidarity with the victim and push for accountability. The other, which Varma is clearly articulating, argues that amplification itself can become part of the damage.
Janhvi Kapoor’s Response To The Deepfake
The controversy escalated after Janhvi addressed the clip in a detailed note on October 5, 2026, condemning the misuse of her image and calling out the larger danger of such cyber abuse. Support quickly poured in from across the industry. Jr NTR, who featured alongside her in Devara: Part 1, publicly backed her, while Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar were also among those who voiced support.
That support has underlined how seriously the industry is treating deepfake violations, especially when explicit or exploitative edits are circulated using a performer’s face without consent. It has also kept the spotlight firmly on Janhvi at a time when she remains one of the more closely watched young actors working across Hindi and Telugu cinema.
Janhvi Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
The controversy has erupted during a period when Janhvi’s screen presence remains especially visible, which partly explains why the backlash around the clip has been so intense. Over the last two years, she has steadily expanded her presence across mainstream commercial films in more than one industry.
In 2024, she appeared in Mr. & Mrs. Mahi with Rajkummar Rao, followed by Ulajh, and also made her Telugu big-screen debut with Devara: Part 1 alongside Jr NTR. In 2025, she featured in Param Sundari and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, both of which have already released. One of her confirmed upcoming films is Peddi, which is slated for 2026.
