“I Was Made For The Big Screen”: John Abraham Reveals Why He’s Reluctant To Step Into OTT Territory

John Abraham opens up about why he hasn’t ventured into OTT yet. Despite the trend, the actor believes his true calling lies on the big screen. Read on!

John Abraham Declares OTT Is NOT For Him — Yet! Here’s Why He Still Loves The Big Screen

While a plethora of Bollywood stars have jumped on the OTT (over-the-top entertainment) bandwagon, John Abraham has decided to stand his ground and remain firmly planted in cinema halls.

If you didn’t know, the action star and charismatic actor is known for his blockbuster films, including Dhoom, Madras Cafe, and Batla House, and recently revealed why he is not ready to make a jump to OTT — at least not yet.

“I Was Made For The Big Screen”

In a recent interview, John stated:

“In my head, I feel I was made for the big screen.”

Even with all the OTT content sprouting up all over India, Abraham said he is not convinced enough to transition.

Abraham said even though there is creative control with OTT platforms, there is an entire operational assortment which requires large teams. The interesting and informative fact is that usually the creator does not retain the IP (Intellectual Property) — from a creative and business stance, there is nothing these OTT platforms offer.

“The operational costs distract from revenue, and the content is not even yours. That’s not something I’m interested in,” he said.

Open to Producing — But Only with a Good Story

John is not completely closing the door on this avenue, though. He is open to producing a web series, but only if the story engages him emotionally — not to drive a financial return.

“If a good story came my way, and I thought it was powerful, I would do it — but not for commercial reasons, but for the story,” he said.

No Acting Plans For OTT Either

As for acting — any project on an OTT platform would not be happening for John right now. He believes the theatrical environment is where he enjoys working, yet absolutely respects the work being done and lauded packages like Paatal Lok for balancing high value and quality viewing experiences in Indian streaming content.

“I appreciate what is being made. But at this moment I do not see myself in it,” he said.

What’s Next for John Abraham?

John Abraham has some intense movie theatre experiences coming up. He is working with Rohit Shetty on a thriller based on the life of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria.

Expected to be a biopic that revisits infamous events like the 1993 Bombay Blasts, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and his tumultuous battles with the underworld.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

As OTT is thriving, John Abraham is still firmly Team Big Screen.

There is something satisfying and refreshing about a star’s strong allegiance to theatrical viewing, which is rare in today’s landscape.

There’s no one quite like John, and with a slew of projects engaging big leagues, he is staying true to his principles of raw power, real scale, and larger-than-life stories.

And to be frank, all are here for it.
