As per a Peeping Moon report, Paatal Lok and Pari fame Prosit Roy will direct this action-packed drama. This marks his second theatrical release after Pari (2018). The film will follow an intense rivalry between a powerful ex-hawaldar and a fearless police officer. The team is working on the script to make sure it blends high-energy action with a gripping story.

John bought the remake rights for Ayyappanum Koshiyum in 2020. Since then, the film has faced multiple changes. Initially, he and Abhishek Bachchan were supposed to star in it, with Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti in charge. But Bachchan exited due to scheduling conflicts, and Arjun Kapoor stepped in.

Filming In Late 2025 After John Finishes Rohit Shetty’s Film

The film was set to start shooting in January 2022, but John put it on hold. He reportedly felt the script didn’t do justice to the original, which was praised for its powerful storytelling and intense performances by Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon.

To restart the project, John considered Anurag Kashyap as the director, but that didn’t work out. Now, with Prosit Roy on board, the film has fresh momentum. The team is rewriting the script to keep the essence of the original while giving it a more commercial appeal for a larger audience. The search for the second lead is still on.

Filming is expected to begin in late 2025. Before that, John will complete Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama, which starts shooting next month. Meanwhile, Roy is finishing work on an Amazon Prime series starring Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre.

On the big screen, John will next be seen in Tehran, a political thriller produced by Dinesh Vijan and directed by Arun Gopalan. The film is set to release in the second half of this year.
