Indian 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Shankar’s 1996 vigilante classic Indian, starring Kamal Haasan, faced a challenging theatrical run. Despite high expectations and significant buzz, the film received a mixed response from audiences, resulting in a less-than-stellar box office performance.
However, fans of the franchise won’t have to wait long to catch the movie online, as Netflix has announced its streaming release.
After Lukewarm Theatrical Response, Indian 2 To Arrive Early On OTT
The streaming giant recently took to social media to announce its digital debut on August 9, just under a month after its worldwide premiere on July 12.
Sharing the update, Netflix wrote, “Buckle up. Indian Thatha is back to take on the system again.#Indian2 is coming to Netflix on 9 August in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada!”
The sequel features an ensemble cast, including Siddharth, Samuthirakani, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Bobby Simha. Indian 2 picks up a few decades after the events of the original film, with the return of Senapathy, the aged vigilante, who emerges from self-imposed exile to battle corruption once again.
While the film had a promising start, it struggled to maintain momentum, with negative reviews impacting its overall collection.
Interestingly, Indian 2 will only be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada on Netflix from August 9. The absence of a Hindi version has sparked curiosity among fans, who are eagerly awaiting an official announcement regarding its release.

The film boasts a stellar soundtrack by Anirudh Ravichander and stunning cinematography by Ravi Varman. Notably, Indian 2 is part of a planned duology, with Indian 3 already teased in the sequel.
The brief glimpse of Indian 3 explores the story of Senapathy and his father, connecting past events with current issues. Many fans appreciated this preview and speculated that Indian 2 could have been condensed into a single film.
Kamal Haasan’s decision to proceed with Indian 2 primarily for the potential of Indian 3 has been seen by some as a costly but strategic move.
Kamal Haasan’s Work Front
In addition to his role in Indian 2, Kamal Haasan was recently featured as the main antagonist in Kalki 2898 AD. He is also set to work on Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life and a project with stunt choreographer duo Anbariv.
