Thalaivii, Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film, is just a few days away from entering theatres. On September 10th, the film will be released across the country. However, even before it was released in theatres, the film was the subject of a number of negative headlines. Here’s everything you need to know.
The makers, Kangana Ranaut, have been talking about the window between a theatrical and OTT release for the past 3-4 days. While the issue with the Tamil and Telugu versions has been handled, the Hindi version is still suffering the wrath of the exhibitors. They’ve asked for a 4-week break between releases on two platforms, rather than the proposed 2-week window by makers.
In the midst of all of this, we learn that Thalaivii (Hindi) has been sold to Amazon Prime Video and Netflix for a whopping 55 crores. The film will be released simultaneously on both platforms.
Despite the fact that the film will be released first in theatres, it will miss out on a significant portion of the market because Maharashtra’s theatres are closed. Kangana Ranaut has addressed the issue, pleading with the Maharashtra government to reopen theatres and save the ailing film industry.
Thalaivii is a biopic based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa, the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former actress, that will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
