The Kantara phenomenon is proving to be unstoppable yet again. The prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, has set the box office on fire, roaring past the ₹500 crore gross mark in India in just eleven days. The film’s performance has been nothing short of spectacular, especially during its second weekend, which saw collections jump to unbelievable levels, solidifying its status as a certified blockbuster.
A Record-Breaking Second Weekend
After a massive first week, the film showed no signs of slowing down. It packed an impressive total in its second weekend, accumulating approximately ₹116.50 crore. Saturday and Sunday, in particular, showed fantastic growth. The film is now comfortably on its way to crossing the ₹600 crore mark, with even ₹650 crore looking like a strong possibility.
Here is the day-wise box office collection breakdown in India:
| Day | Gross Collection (India) |
|---|---|
| Week One (8 days) | ₹383.00 cr. |
| 2nd Friday | ₹24.75 cr. |
| 2nd Saturday | ₹45.00 cr. |
| 2nd Sunday | ₹46.75 cr. |
| Total | ₹499.50 cr. |
Unbelievable Performance in Karnataka and South India
In its home state of Karnataka, the film is creating history. It has already become the second-biggest grosser of all time, racing past KGF Chapter 2 in just eleven days. It is now on track to overtake the original Kantara for the top spot by Wednesday. The second weekend alone brought in nearly ₹40 crore, which is a record-breaking number. Interestingly, Tamil Nadu has held exceptionally well, dropping just 28% from the first weekend and emerging as the biggest market for the film outside of Karnataka.
Here is the territorial breakdown of the collections so far:
| Area | Gross Collection |
|---|---|
| Karnataka | ₹164.00 cr. |
| AP/TS | ₹84.75 cr. |
| Tamil Nadu | ₹47.50 cr. |
| Kerala | ₹43.25 cr. |
| Rest of India | ₹160.00 cr. |
| INDIA | ₹499.50 cr. |
Hindi Belt Continues To Shine
The film’s Hindi version is also putting up a solid show, proving its pan-India appeal. The second weekend for the Hindi belt brought in a strong ₹36.12 crore, taking the total nett collection to ₹146.22 crore. This steady performance in the northern markets is crucial for the film’s journey to the top.
On The Road To Beat Chhaava
With its current momentum, Kantara: Chapter 1 is now a serious contender to become the highest-grossing film of the year. The current top spot is held by Chhaava, with around ₹690 crore. Given that Kantara: Chapter 1 has one more open weekend (October 17-19) before the big Diwali releases arrive on October 21, surpassing the ₹700 crore mark is a very strong possibility. All eyes are now on how it holds during the festive period.
