Filmmaker Karan Johar has found himself at the centre of a brewing controversy. Recently, he took to Instagram to address what he sees as a lack of respect within the industry.
In a cryptic post on his Instagram stories, Johar hinted that he felt offended while watching television with his mother. His grievance stemmed from a promo for a reality comedy show aired on a reputed channel, where a comedian purportedly imitated him in what he described as exceptionally poor taste.
Though not directly naming anyone, it’s widely speculated that Johar’s comments were aimed at comedian Kettan Singh. Singh’s portrayal of the director on the show Madness Machayenge – India Ko Hasayenge appeared to have rubbed Johar the wrong way.
Here’s What Karan Johar Said In His Cryptic IG Post
Karan Johar expressed his disappointment, saying, “I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in… this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!”

KJo’s close friend and TV producer Ektaa Kapoor came to Johar’s defence. She shared his note on her own Instagram story, highlighting the prevalence of such instances in both shows and award functions. Kapoor urged Johar to demand respect, suggesting that imitating one of his iconic movies or classics would be more appropriate.

Kettan Singh REACTS With An Apology For Karan Johar
In response to the escalating situation, Kettan Singh publicly apologised to Karan Johar. In an interview with Times Now, Singh clarified that his intention was purely to entertain the audience, inspired by Johar’s appearances on talk shows. He expressed regret if his portrayal had caused any distress to the filmmaker and conveyed his admiration for Johar’s body of work. As of now, the producers of Madness Machayenge have not issued any official statement on this matter.
