Karan Johar has announced that the ninth season of the long-running chat show will be its last, with the farewell season set to premiere on JioHotstar on October 14.

Karan Johar said, “Koffee with Karan has been such a large part of my identity in the entertainment industry… I still can’t believe it’s been 22 years and now this will be my 9th season… It’s been one of the most satisfying and wholesome experiences of my life … but I have come to a realisation that I want to spend the next decade of my life directing more movies … telling many more stories … so with a heavy heart I am making this season my last …. This will be the last time I will be on a couch that has been synonymous with conversations, candour and well….controversies… the decision is emotional and personal to me …. But I am hoping the legacy of love the show has given me continues to brew in people’s hearts ….”
His words frame the end of the show as both deeply personal and creatively deliberate. Rather than simply stepping away from hosting, Johar is drawing a line under a defining part of his public identity as he looks to invest more of his time in directing films.
