In a surprising turn of events, Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar are reportedly set to appear together on the popular chat show Koffee With Karan 8, despite their alleged fallout over Dostana 2.

According to a a latest report in News 18, the actor and the filmmaker have decided to sort out their differences and address the media reports of their tiff on the show.
Kartik Aaryan, who made his debut on Koffee With Karan in its sixth season with Kriti Sanon, is likely to grace the couch for the second time. However, it is not clear who will accompany him on the show. The source said, “There’s still no clarity as to who Kartik will come with but he’s likely to be seen on the Koffee couch for the second time. The duo has decided on sorting out their differences and the episode might also see them addressing the many reports of their alleged tiff.”

Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar‘s relationship soured after the former was dropped from Dostana 2, which also stars Janhvi Kapoor. The reason for Kartik’s exit was not officially revealed, but it was speculated that he had creative differences with the director Collin D’Cunha and also had issues with his dates. Karan Johar had announced the recasting of Dostana 2 in a cryptic statement, which sparked rumours of a rift between him and Kartik.
In April 2021, Dharma Productions issued a statement saying that they would be recasting the film due to “professional circumstances”. Although the statement did not mention Aaryan’s name, it was widely reported that he was the one who was ousted from the film.
“Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence – we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon,” read the statement by Dharma Productions.
Addressing the topic during an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Kartik said: “I have not spoken about this yet. I believe, and it’s my etiquette, that whenever there is a rift between an elder person and a younger person, the younger one is not supposed to say anything.”

However, Kartik and Karan have been spotted at public events and have exchanged cordial greetings. They met at a screening of Satyaprem Ki Katha, Kartik’s last release, and shared a warm hug.
Later, in September 2023, Aaryan and Johar were seen together at a panel discussion during the 14th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The two shared the stage with other prominent personalities from the Indian film industry and discussed various topics related to cinema.
During the Melbourne Film Festival, Karan had showered praise on the actor and said: “Kartik’s films have deeply resonated with the country and have always brought in so much fervour back to the cinema halls. More power to him. May his contribution to cinema always continue.”
Filmmaker Karan Johar had confirmed that he and actor Kartik Aaryan are “working on something” and is hoping it would materialise.

Koffee With Karan 8 is all set to premiere on October 26 on Disney+ Hotstar. The show is expected to feature many celebrities, including a Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Sara Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt.
