KHxRK Promo Out As Red Giant Movies Reunites Kamal Haasan And Rajinikanth After Nearly Five Decades With Nelson Dilipkumar At The Helm

For Tamil cinema fans, this is the kind of headline that rarely moves from fantasy casting to a real, rolling update. Red Giant Movies has officially pushed the button on KHxRK, unveiling a promo for the project that brings Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth back into the same frame after nearly five decades, a reunion that has instantly turned into an industry event.

The pairing is as historic as it gets. While the two icons shared screens in their early years, a full-fledged collaboration featuring them together has been absent for decades, making this Red Giant-backed announcement feel less like routine film news and more like a generational moment.

The Latest Update: KHxRK Promo Goes Live

Red Giant Movies released the KHxRK promo as the first official public-facing asset for the collaboration, formally teeing up the film’s branding and the “two legends, one frame” pitch that has fueled anticipation around the project. The film’s working title, KHxRK, is a straightforward nod to both stars, and the promo drop effectively signals that the long-rumoured reunion is now in motion under a concrete banner.

Alongside the promo, the project’s key creative pillars have also come into focus. Nelson Dilipkumar is set to helm the film, reuniting with music composer Anirudh Ravichander after their massively successful collaborations, including Jailer. The film is also planned as a multi-language release across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, widening its footprint beyond the core Tamil market from day one.

As of now, the makers have not announced a final title beyond KHxRK, nor have they revealed plot details, supporting cast, or a release date.

Why Nelson And Anirudh Make This A True “Event” Package

Nelson’s sensibility, built around punchy mass staging and stylised humour, has proved particularly potent in the current theatrical landscape. Pair that with Anirudh’s track record for crafting stadium-sized themes and high-decibel album campaigns, and KHxRK reads like a deliberately mounted big-screen spectacle, not a nostalgia exercise.

For Red Giant Movies, the scale of the reunion also aligns with its recent positioning as a studio capable of packaging films as cultural moments, not just releases.

Kamal Haasan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Kamal Haasan’s last few years have been defined by high-profile theatrical swings and ambitious scale. He returned as a major box office force with Vikram (2022), directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. In 2024, he expanded his presence with Kalki 2898 AD and also headlined Indian 2. In 2025, he reunited with Mani Ratnam for Thug Life, which released theatrically on June 5, 2025.

On the horizon, his most talked-about upcoming film remains the next Indian installment, Indian 3, which has been officially announced following Indian 2.

Rajinikanth’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Rajinikanth’s modern run has balanced blockbuster-scale vehicles with packed collaboration lists. After Jailer (2023) became a major theatrical hit, he appeared in Vettaiyan (2024) and made a guest appearance in Lal Salaam (2024). In 2025, he headlined Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, marking another major director-star pairing in his recent phase.

Next, he is set to return with Jailer 2, with Nelson Dilipkumar directing and Anirudh Ravichander composing, keeping the mass-action franchise momentum firmly intact as KHxRK builds toward its next official announcement.
