Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has completed a year since its release, and the makers are celebrating with a special tribute. Aamir Khan Productions shared a video on social media, marking the film’s anniversary with a heartfelt message.

Sharing a special video on Instagram, makers wrote, “A runaway bride, a mix-up, and a path to self-discovery, Laapataa Ladies reminded us that sometimes, losing yourself is just the beginning of finding who you truly are. 💛 Celebrating #1YearOfLaapataaLadies ✨”
Directed by Kiran Rao and backed by Aamir Khan, the film received praise for its engaging storytelling and strong performances. Its portrayal of rural India struck a chord with both audiences and critics.
The film gained global recognition when it was selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category. It even made it to the Top 15 shortlist, a rare feat for an Indian film.
However, it eventually dropped out of the final race, leaving fans and critics disappointed.
“I feel overjoyed to be a part of Laapataa Ladies, a film that has helped me grow as an actress. Now that it has completed one year of its release, it feels surreal. I feel overwhelmed and I’m glad beyond words. Each day during the shoot was fresh and also a learning experience for me. I will always be thankful to Aamir Khan sir and Kiran Rao, for bringing out the ‘actor’ in me. Though the film has completed one year, the audiences have kept its essence alive, and I’m filled with gratitude for it,” shared Pratibha Ranta.
Aamir Khan On Missing The Oscars
At an ABP Network event, Aamir Khan spoke about Laapataa Ladies not making it to the final list. He acknowledged the tough competition, with 80-85 films submitted worldwide.
Aamir Khan shared that Laapataa Ladies was a well-made film, but its Oscars journey depended on the Academy’s preferences. He acknowledged that other films might have appealed more to the selection panel, making the process highly subjective.
He compared it to classic Indian films and said that judging creative work isn’t like a competition with clear winners.
About Laapataa Ladies
Laapataa Ladies follows a mix-up involving two brides, Phool Kumari (Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya (Pratibha Ranta), who get separated during a train journey. Along with Deepak (Sparsh Shrivastav), they navigate self-discovery and challenge societal norms.
Blending humour with social commentary, the film connected with audiences. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, it was praised for its fresh take on storytelling.
