Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Jawan And Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal Still Rule Netflix
Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan leads the Netflix charts with a massive 29.8 million views. Close behind is Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal with 26.4 million views, proving that audiences love high-octane entertainers.
But the biggest shocker is Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, which has taken third place with 26.2 million views despite a quieter theatrical release.
Bollywood thrillers and entertainers continue to dominate streaming, with Crew (24.5 million) and Fighter (23.4 million) securing top spots. Shaitaan (22.6 million) and Shah Rukh Khan’s second release, Dunki (18.3 million), also made the list.
Meanwhile, South Indian cinema is proving its reach. Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja pulled in 24.9 million views, while Lucky Baskkar scored 18.7 million views. These numbers show that regional films are finding audiences beyond their original markets.
Audience Preference Shifts From Star Power To Content-Driven Films
Star-driven blockbusters still dominate, but audience preferences are shifting. Laapataa Ladies breaking into the top three proves that fresh narratives can stand tall alongside big-budget films. Word of mouth played a huge role in its digital success & proved that streaming platforms give a second chance to good films.
While box office numbers still help (as seen with Jawan and Animal), they are no longer the only path to success. A film like Laapataa Ladies can thrive online despite a modest run in cinemas, while a blockbuster like Dunki might not see the same numbers on streaming.
With changing viewing habits, filmmakers now have to rethink their strategies. It’s no longer just about theatrical earnings but also long-term digital impact. Streaming platforms are changing things by ensuring that every film gets a fair shot at winning audiences.
