Nitanshi shared with Free Press Journal, “I told Kiran ma’am that Phool is vulnerable, and I believe she should cry. She asked me to follow my gut, and that’s exactly what I did. After we shot the scene, everyone was crying and clapping.”

Her improvised performance made a strong impression on both the audience and the cast, including director Kiran Rao.

She also shared a touching encounter with Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon at an awards event.

The actress said, “I remember I kept glancing at her like a fangirl, preparing myself to say hi. And then, she came to meet me herself. She told me – Nitanshi, I see little Kriti in you. I see the younger version of myself in you. And I wish to see you work in really good films. I wish to see you kill it on screen. It was such a huge moment for me.”

About Laapataa Ladies

Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, is a feminist drama set in rural India in the early 2000s. The film follows two brides, Phool (played by Goel) and Jaya (played by Pratibha Ranta), who are swapped on their wedding day during a train ride.

The film explores their journey and the confusion that follows, with Sparsh Shrivastav playing the groom desperately searching for his bride. The film also stars Chhaya Kadam, Ravi Kishan, and Geeta Agrawal Sharma.

In September, the film was selected as India’s official entry for the 2024 Academy Awards by the Film Federation of India (FFI). Unfortunately, it didn’t make the shortlist of 15 films competing for a spot in the final five.
