Aamir Khan Shuts Down Lahore 1947 Title Change Buzz, Says The Film Is Still Lahore 1947

For a film that is already loaded with emotional weight and historical charge, the last thing Lahore 1947 needed was a noisy distraction. Yet over the past few days, social media chatter claimed Rajkumar Santoshi’s much-awaited period drama had quietly swapped its title to Batwara 1947. Now, producer Aamir Khan has stepped in and firmly put that rumour to rest.

Aamir Khan’s Clarification On The Title

When asked directly about the supposed rename, Aamir dismissed the claim with a laugh and a clean, unambiguous response. “Where did you hear that? No, the title of our film has not changed. As of now, it is Lahore 1947, and that’s how I would like it to be.”

The conversation around the title had intensified because some felt an Indian film named after a city in Pakistan might face resistance. Aamir, however, made it clear he is not interested in bending to that kind of pressure.

Instead, the only real complication is legal and logistical, not creative. Producer and director Suneel Darshan owns the rights to the title Lahore, and negotiations are currently underway. The expectation remains that the matter will be resolved soon, allowing the film to retain the title Lahore 1947 as intended.

What Lahore 1947 Is About, And Who Is Behind It

Lahore 1947 is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under Aamir Khan Productions. The film is adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya. Set against the turmoil of Partition, the story centres on the human cost of displacement and the bitter collision of identities, without stretching into melodrama.

The ensemble features Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi and Preity Zinta, among others. The film has also been officially dated for an Independence week theatrical release on August 13, 2026.

Aamir Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

On the acting front, Aamir’s next confirmed release is Sitaare Zameen Par, which has been announced with a release date of June 20, 2025. As a producer, he is also backing Lahore 1947 (2026), keeping him firmly in the spotlight as he balances marquee projects with story-first filmmaking.
