The world of Tumbbad 2 is getting more tactile, more grotesque, and far more technically ambitious than fans might expect. As the sequel moves deeper into the franchise’s folkloric darkness, prosthetic designer Shaune Harrison has revealed that one of the film’s central characters will undergo a dramatic, multi-stage physical evolution, brought to life through extensive prosthetic makeups.
Harrison, whose screen credits include crafting Lord Voldemort and Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter films, Red Skull for Captain America: The First Avenger, and prosthetic work across Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, spoke about the scale of the transformation and the precision required to keep it consistent across a long shoot.
The Latest Update: Three Looks, Multiple Doubles, And Repeatable “Factory Line” Silicone Pieces
Explaining how the same character will be presented in three different physical stages, Harrison said, “I mean, there is one main character that we’re doing, for which we go through three different looks. And they’re quite extensive makeups.”
He also underlined the workload that comes with continuity, especially when productions require both performance and stunt doubles. “We always want to make sure, you know, with any film you do, you’ll have a stunt double and the acting double. So you have to make multiples of makeups because whenever you do a makeup on an actor, it’s only ever used once,” Harrison said, adding that if an actor is on set for 30 days, the team must create “30 exact pieces.”
Giving a glimpse into the workflow, he described the prosthetics pipeline as something close to mass manufacturing. “You have all the moulds… we inject silicone into the moulds. So it’s like a factory line. You produce the same thing over and over and over again,” he said, stressing that the goal is seamless continuity so the audience never feels the gaps of a non-linear shoot.
Harrison also pointed to the behind-the-scenes discipline that ensures prosthetics do not slow production down. “Tests are the really important part of it. Because, you know, if it doesn’t work, we’ll rechange it,” he said, emphasising that the team explores multiple approaches from script stage, then locks the most set-friendly solution.
‘Tumbbad 2’, directed by Adesh Prasad, is being spearheaded by actor-producer Sohum Shah under Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios, led by Dr Jayantilal Gada. The sequel recently added Nawazuddin Siddiqui to its cast, with Siddiqui saying, “Tumbbad has always been a film I admired for its originality and atmospheric storytelling.”
Sohum Shah’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Sohum Shah was last seen leading Ufff Yeh Siyapaa (2025), a dialogue-free comic thriller co-starring Nushrratt Bharuccha and Nora Fatehi, and Crazxy (2025), directed by Girish Kohli. Shah is now gearing up for Tumbbad 2, where he continues to anchor the universe he helped build, this time on an expanded canvas with an international prosthetics push and the addition of Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
