India is a land of film critics and trade analysts. Nowadays, every other person calls themselves a critic, a movie expert, or a trade expert. This becomes a breeding ground for people to spread fake narratives and misleading claims, as they believe that they can get away with anything. This practice not only harms the industry as a whole but also jeopardizes the audiences’ faith in all genuine people.

Recently, Producer and trade experts Girish Johar and Editor of India’s leading trade magazine Complete Cinema Atul Mohan called out some misleading information being spread by some so-called experts. Girish took to Twitter to respond to a report about how Adipurush has been deserted by some critics who were earlier hyping it despite an overwhelmingly negative response. Another point was about a massive film being released on the OTT platforms. “After overhyping one … Fake Narratives … All these hurts the fraternity only ! Makers must be cautioned !”, he tweeted.

In a separate tweet, Johar talked about how paid reviewers are harming the film fraternity. He wrote, “Paid Marketing Tools of Reviews & Influencers are doing more harm than good. Audiences can clearly see them & also see through them. To err is human but repetitive mistakes is harakiri. We, as a fraternity, have to be more PRUDENT.”

Responding to Johar’s tweet, trade expert Atul Mohanan wrote in Hindi. “Bikne me aur bichne me yehi fark hai.” (This is the difference between being a sell-out and crawling in front of your master.)

Tale Of Adipurush Hype
Right after Adipurush was released, critics started to lash out at the film’s poor writing, tacky visual effects, and downright offensive dialogues. Not to mention the cardboard-cutout acting of its leads. Amid a rain of negative reviews, some experts and critics have been hyping up the film. Johar and Mohanan have exposed such paid experts who are trying to cash in on a project. The film’s box office is a reflection of people’s beliefs as it has started going downhill from Monday onwards.
