Manoj Bajpayee is stepping into the shoes of a real-life hero once again. The acclaimed actor (known for his gripping performances in films inspired by true events) is all set to portray legendary Mumbai cop Madhukar Zende in his upcoming Netflix thriller, Inspector Zende. The film has been directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and has officially wrapped filming in Goa today.

As per a Peeping Moon report, Bajpayee’s latest project will bring to life the story of Madhukar Zende, the popular police officer who caught serial killer Charles Sobhraj not once but twice.
Zende is a revered figure in the Mumbai police force who built a career solving some of the city’s most high-profile cases. However, his pursuit and eventual capture of Sobhraj in both 1971 and 1986 remain his most iconic achievements.
The film will focus on these intense encounters, showcasing the high-stakes chase between Zende and Sobhraj (played by Rocket Boys actor Jim Sarbh). The thriller promises an edge-of-the-seat narrative, highlighting the cat-and-mouse game that spanned years, ending with Sobhraj’s final arrest in Goa.
Inspector Zende Went On Floors In Jan This Year
The report mentions that Inspector Zende went on floors in January and has been shot across multiple locations in India. Goa is a major backdrop for the final scenes as per the story’s climax. The film is produced by Jay Shewakramani (Northern Lights Films) and Adipurush director Om Raut. This marks Shewakramani’s continued collaboration with Netflix after Freddy and Jaane Jaan.
Chinmay Mandlekar (known for his impactful performances as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Marathi cinema) is making his directorial debut with this project. He transitions to direction after over two decades of acting experience.
Both Madhukar Zende and Charles Sobhraj have been subjects of multiple cinematic adaptations. Zende’s career was recently documented in Akshay M. Shah’s Zende and was featured in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Black Warrant. On the other hand, Sobhraj’s life-inspired films like Main Aur Charles starring Randeep Hooda, as well as Netflix’s The Serpent.
Manoj Bajpayee: Upcoming Projects
While Inspector Zende wraps up, Bajpayee is gearing up for an exciting slate of projects. He will soon reprise his role as Srikanth Tiwari in The Family Man Season 3.
Additionally, he will join forces with Shekhar Kapur for Masoom: The New Generation, alongside Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. The film is expected to begin production next month in Mumbai.
