Mirzapur The Movie Faces CBFC Changes As Intimate Scenes Are Shortened And Cuss Words Muted

The big screen leap of Mirzapur The Movie is arriving with a censor trail that is as sharp as the franchise’s own reputation. Ahead of its September 4, 2026 theatrical release, the film has undergone a round of CBFC-directed modifications that affect both its sexual content and abusive language, while its violence appears to have gone untouched.

Cbfc Orders Changes To Intimate Scenes And Language

The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared Mirzapur The Movie with an A certificate after asking for several edits. The most notable change involves the reduction of intimate scenes in two portions of the film, one in the first half and another in the post-interval stretch. Those changes have led to 35 seconds being deleted from the final cut.

The language has also been toned down at multiple points. Cuss words were muted at four places, while six abusive expressions were replaced with more appropriate alternatives. One dialogue, “Galey se lag gar”, was modified as part of the board’s instructions. In the first half, one word was replaced with “kamar”, while in the latter half, the word “lanth” was asked to be changed. A caste reference was also modified before certification was granted.

What stands out is that none of the violent or gory scenes were cut, despite Mirzapur being one of the most violence-heavy crime brands to move from OTT to cinemas in recent memory.

A Lengthy Theatrical Cut Gets Cleared

The certified runtime of Mirzapur The Movie stands at 197.19 minutes, which translates to 3 hours, 17 minutes and 19 seconds. That makes it an unusually long theatrical outing, especially for a franchise title rooted in a streaming format.

The censor certificate was issued by the Revising Committee of the CBFC, not the Examining Committee. In certification practice, that usually means the film went through a secondary review process before the final clearance was locked.

Cast, Director And Story Setup

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur The Movie brings together Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee and Ravi Kishan. The film is backed by Excel Entertainment along with Amazon MGM Studios, and is positioned as a crime action drama expansion of the hugely popular Mirzapur universe.

The premise pushes the lawless power game of Mirzapur onto a theatrical scale, carrying forward the franchise’s familiar mix of gang rivalry, revenge and political muscle.

Pankaj Tripathi’s Recent And Upcoming Work

For Pankaj Tripathi, Mirzapur The Movie arrives after a busy stretch that included the theatrical releases Main Atal Hoon in 2024 and Stree 2 in 2024. On the OTT side, he was also seen leading Criminal Justice: A Family Matter. His next confirmed major release is Mirzapur The Movie, which now heads into cinemas with its adult certification and a visibly altered final cut.
