OG ‘Shaktimaan’ Mukesh Khanna recently explained why he refused to sell the character’s rights to Yash Raj Films (YRF). In an interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Khanna revealed that he was contacted by Aditya Chopra‘s team nearly ten years ago, but he turned down the offer because he disagreed with their vision for the character.
Here’s What Mukesh Khanna Said
Khanna shared that at the time, a fan-made image of Ranveer Singh dressed as Shaktimaan was going viral on social media, sparking buzz about a possible reboot. Despite this, Khanna decided not to give away the rights. He said, “I told them I wouldn’t give the rights.”
Instead of simply selling the rights, Khanna offered a counter-suggestion. He told them, “Tell Aditya, whoever he is, if you want to make it, make it with me.”
Mukesh said, “I didn’t want to give away the rights only for them to make a disco drama. I refused” He was clearly protective of the character and didn’t want it to be adapted in a way that strayed from its original essence.
Mukesh Sees Allu Arjun As Potential Actor To Play The Iconic Character
Although Khanna wasn’t convinced that Ranveer Singh was right for the role, he did express admiration for Telugu actor Allu Arjun. He suggested that Arjun could be a good choice for Shaktimaan, saying he needed to watch more of his films but believed Arjun had the right personality for the part.
Khanna also explained why he didn’t think Ranveer Singh was suited for Shaktimaan. He mentioned that being a talented actor isn’t enough for Shaktimaan; the character needs the right face, and he wasn’t convinced by the actor’s appearance for this role, even though he acknowledged his talent.
He added that while Ranveer had proved himself in various roles, such as playing Khilji, he felt that his face didn’t match the iconic superhero.
